As a long time Habs fan I can tell you that I am absolutely stoked about the thought of Sundin in a Canadiens jersey. Hey, from an entrepreneurial standpoint a Sundin Canadiens jersey would be flying off the shelves. However, I digress. From a fan perspective the addition of Sundin would be absolutely huge. Despite his advanced age he is still one of the most dominant players in the game, and his size and strength make him nearly impossible to handle down low. Can you imagine him working with Kovalev? The other team would never touch the puck.
But before we see Sundin in a Canadiens jersey he first needs to decide if he’s going to play at all. The rumor is that Mats is thinking strongly of retirement. Hopefully, for the sake of the game, Mats decides to return. He still has too much talent to deprive fans around the NHL of having the opportunity to watch him play.
So, will we see this hulking Swede in a Canadiens jersey? Only time will tell, and Mats seems in no hurry to make up his mind. He has a sentimental attachment to Toronto and Vancouver is dangling a 20 million dollar carrot in front of him. A number of other teams are rumored to be trying to lure Sundin to come play for them. So, perhaps the odds aren’t great. Still, any Canadiens fan with a heartbeat has to be pretty excited about the possibility of seeing Sundin in a Canadiens jersey. He has been torching us for years. Wouldn’t it be nice to have him on our side when we meet the hated Maple Leafs. Come to Montreal Mats. If you want to win a cup, no other city is going to give you a better chance.
